Hillrom’s business operations continue as global demand for several critical products has grown substantially. Hillrom is working to significantly ramp up production of these products with the goal of at least doubling capacity where possible in the following areas:
We have a dedicated team executing business continuity plans by product line. We are monitoring product inventory, raw materials and component needs daily to meet customer demand for most of our products around the world. Hillrom’s business operations continue with no material interruption, and we are actively managing supply risks. Hillrom carefully follows WHO and U.S. CDC directives, as well as individual country guidance regarding transportation and shipping availability.
Hillrom rental equipment is only deemed ready for patient care after undergoing thorough cleaning and disinfecting by Hillrom personnel. Hillrom uses PeridoxRTU®, a wide-spectrum disinfectant and sporicidal manufactured by Contec® Healthcare, for all routine cleaning and disinfecting needs including rental beds between patient use. For more information please see our rental cleaning and disinfecting bulletin or call 800-638-2546.
With a growing need for open hospital beds, especially in the intensive care unit (ICU), applying therapies and support to patients which enable them to be treated in lower acuity settings is more important than ever. NIV should be considered for first line respiratory support for patients having difficulty breathing in order to avoid intubation. Using NIV to wean patients from mechanical ventilation (MV) in the ICU could enable the patient to move to a less critical department, which would open a bed for a high acuity patient. The benefits of weaning patients from MV to NIV has been well-established in clinical research and can significantly reduce risk for other nosocomial infections and lung injury.
The small one-pound control unit, running with wall oxygen in the hospital and used with the low-profile nasal interface, allows use in many parts of the hospital: the emergency department, medical-surgical recovery, general floors and post-ventilator weaning support. The Life2000 device’s nasal pillows conform to the nostril, creating a seal that prevents leakage while eliminating the risk of nasal bridge skin breakdown and the formation of mask pressure ulcers from prolonged periods of NIV usage.
We strongly recommend that customers follow the guidelines published by different medical societies, such as the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM), regarding following appropriate infection control practices when conducting aerosol generating procedures. The Life2000 ventilator is FDA-cleared and clinically appropriate for patients needing ventilatory support in inpatient and outpatient settings. Please contact your Hillrom Respiratory Health specialist to get further information.
Our on-site customer services have not changed, but our U.S. service employees are observing recommendations regarding social distancing and avoidance of large gatherings, and we follow all individual hospital guidance. It is hard to predict the impact of COVID-19 spread but every effort will be made to meet your needs.
When you buy new Hillrom beds in the U.S you will have the choice to retain your old beds to help you through the surge period. Your trade-in payment will be delayed until the beds are returned to Hillrom following the surge period.
